In the Cave of the Arma
The chapel of the Annunziata, built in a grotto below the fortress, has been a destination for pilgrims and faithful since the beginning of this millennium. In the cave, at the dawn of the 17th century, the marble statues and the altar were placed.
After about a century the side altars were built.
In the area behind the presbytery, for several years now, archaeological campaigns have been taking place which have brought to light prehistoric remains: various types of lithic industry dating back 60,000 years ago, the Neanderthal man's era and numerous remains of tropical-type animal fauna.
It should be noted that other excavations carried out outside, near the fortress dating back to 1565, have brought to light remains from the Roman era; in addition to various metal and ceramic tools, there is also a probable small temple.
