The highest church in the city

The little church in 1920The sanctuary, which represents the sacred building located at the highest altitude among all those situated in the Sanremo municipal territory, was built in Monte Bignone (1299 metres above sea level) in 1954 by the company Martini, thanks above all to the active interest and conspicuous financing for the construction of the church provided by the first parish priest of San Romolo, Monsignor Giovanni Tornatore.

The Project of 1953



The temple was designed by the engineer Tullio Groff, at that time director of the Sanremo-Monte Bignone cableway, even though the church was not built in the same architectural forms that the designer had originally planned in 1953.in the construction plan of the place of worship.

The Sanctuary todayThe new sanctuary was inaugurated on 2 January 1955 on the occasion of the solemn celebrations for the closing of the Marian Year of 1954.
