Noble and Military
Born in Sanremo on 25 April 1925, he moved to Rome with his parents in 1928 to complete his studies.
After the 8th September 1943 he was reluctant to be called to arms and after the liberation of Rome, carrying out military police duties, he enlisted voluntarily in the reconstituted Italian Liberation Army attached to the British Army.
As a liberator, he entered many Italian cities. He obtains the decoration of the bronze medal for Military Valour. Seriously wounded in 1945, he can no longer resume active service but serves with the Lieutenant of the King of Italy as liaison officer with the Allied military authorities.
At the end of the war he returned to his hometown where he performed a number of functions, including that of insurance agent. In 1958 he married Maria Elisabetta d' Aremberg in Brussels, who gave him two daughters: Umberto II was the best man at his wedding.
In 1955 he co-founded the Sanremo Lions Club and in 1960 he conceived and chaired the Promoting Committee of the Maritime Alps Natural Park.
In 1970 he published the "Borea Manuscript", a collection of historical and chronicle news of Sanremo, the result of almost five hundred years of his family's notes, ordered and transcribed by him. He also presided for over thirty years over the "Council for Economic Affairs" of the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Costa.
He has received many awards including the Commandery of the Order of SS Maurice and Lazarus, the First Class Knighthood of the Danish Order of Dannegrog (he had been Honorary Consul of Denmark for 26 years), Knight of Honour of the Sovereign Order of Malta, appointed Duke ad personam by Umberto II in 1978, Consul of the Sea, and in 1980 proclaimed by the Municipality of Sanremo "Citizen Well Merited".
The Duke was loved and respected by all for his qualities of kindness, lordship and generosity.
He died in Sanremo on 30th December 2009.
