Nurse and Benefactress

The Marquise Giulia ( Giulietta ) Borea d'Olmo was born in Sanremo on 1st December 1892 by Agostino and Maria Granval.

Her life was an apostolate at the service of the poor and the suffering. She began her activity in the territorial hospital Hotel West End in 1916 as a volunteer nurse. When the war ended she was one of the promoters of the Pro Infantia and in 1928 she became President of the Ladies of St. Vincent who carried out their activities in the poorest neighbourhoods.

Appointed inspector of the Italian Red Cross nurses in 1937, she dedicated herself to the organisation of the School for Nurses.
In 1940, in addition to working at the Civil Hospital, she assisted refugees from nations at war with Italy: in Menton she worked to re-equip the Maternity ward destroyed by the bombs and in Sanremo she flocked everywhere during the bombardments to assist, help and console.

After the war he devoted himself to the search for missing soldiers and civilians, he was on the front line in the Polesine affected by serious misfortune and in Diano Marina affected by a serious typhus epidemic.

She dedicated herself to the Municipal Assistance Agency to always help the less well-off and was also elected to the municipal consultations leading the Assistance Department in 1949 under the Asquasciati administration.

On 26 September 1978 she died in Sanremo.

She was appointed Citizen Well-deserving.
