Senator, engineer and benefactor
On 19 February 1853 the engineer Ernesto Marsaglia, senator and benefactor, was born in Turin.
He was deputy for three legislatures and became senator for life in 1915.
He built, during the First World War, the road that leads to San Romolo and that today bears his name.
He was very active as President of the Congregation of Health that managed the Pious Sanremesi Works including the Marsaglia, a building built thanks to the donations of his brother Giovanni that included the Giovanni Borea Hospice and the Zeffiro Massa Kindergarten.
In 1907 he ceded the management of the drinking water of Sanremo, which belonged to his family, to the Municipality.
He died in Sanremo on 5th January 1924 and left large sums of money in his will to the Congregation of Charity and the Dante Alighieri Catholic School.
