General of the Army Corps
Count Paolo Ruggeri Laderchi, born in Codogno in 1862, started his military career reaching the rank of Army Corps General, but, as Fabiano Scalabrini reports, he spent many years of his life more than as a soldier, as a diplomat, as an "attaché" at various European embassies and mainly in Russia, where he contracted marriage generating three children.
Having remained a widower, he remarried - again in Russia - with Baroness Alessandra, belonging to the very noble Stael Holstein family, with whom he came to settle in Sanremo after purchasing the large Villa Bel Respiro with a large park in front.
He had three other children: Cesare, General of the Brigade, Alessandro lieutenant aviator and Nora who married the former American Major Mr. Klein.
The Laderchi family, very sought-after guests in the then Sanremo society, received very frequently personalities of high social rank from every country who were occasionally present in Sanremo, both for the ritual afternoon tea, for the bridge games and to celebrate ...
He was appointed President, in 1932, of the newly formed Rotary Club Sanremo.
On 8 July 1940 he died in Sanremo. Now he rests in the Cemetery of the Mouth with his wife who died almost a hundred years ago in 1969.
