Composer
He was born in Milan on 16 October 1930.
He was the son of a well-known university lecturer from a young age and had shown a marked predilection for music. In addition to classical studies he undertook musical studies and graduated from the Conservatories of Milan and Parma in composition, piano, conducting, vocal polyphony and choir conducting.
At the age of 23 he composed the chamber opera buffa opera "L'amante cubista", which was a great success and was performed more than 200 times throughout Europe and America.
This work was followed by the opera buffa "Week-end", the dramatic opera "Requiem for Elisa", the comic operas "Agenzia matrimoniale" and "Madame Landru", the tragic opera in three acts "Una donna uccisa con dolcezza" and the children's opera "La Teresina".
Equally successful were the ballets Enea, A happy hippy, La figlia di Jorio, Con Amores and I promessi sposi, which had exceptional performers: Carla Fracci, Luciana Savignano, Amedeo Amodio, Oriella Dorella, Loredana Furno, Francisco Sedeño.
Operas and ballets have been performed in the main Italian theatres (La Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, the Comunale in Genoa, the Regio in Parma, the Filarmonico in Verona, the Petruzzelli in Bari, the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, etc.) and in many European countries, in the United States, in Canada. The operas have been translated into various languages.
In 1988 the opera in three acts "Eurekas Stockade" was performed in Perth (Australia) for the celebration of the second centenary of the Australian nation.
Roberto Hazon has also composed a lot of symphonic music, some cantatas for various instrumental and vocal ensembles, cycles of music for song and orchestra, many compositions for choir, piano and solo instruments (with orchestra or piano). Some of the most successful compositions have been recorded.
He died in Sanremo on 24 June 2006.
