Engineer, Architect and Painter
Giovenale Gastaldi Jr. was born in Sanremo on 22 May 1892 from Carlo and Rosa Guidi.
A painter of discreet value, he has executed numerous works representing our city where he practiced all his life as a freelance architect.
His works are: Palazzo Guidi in Via Roma, Palazzo Domus Nostra in Corso Orazio Raimondo, the schools in Via Volta which had been started by Pietro Agosti, the elevation of the Hotel des Etrangers before the current renovation, and the schools in Piazza Nota, palazzo Gastaldi in via Manzoni and palazzo Gastaldi in corso Orazio Raimondo where there is now the ACI, the restoration of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli with the construction of the rectory, the former Villa Erveda palace in via Flli Asquasciati, villa Mio Riposo in piazza San Bernardo and the Mater Misericordiae schools in Via Gioberti.
In the sixties he was also the promoter of the rebuilding of the San Siro bell tower in Romanesque style, but nothing was done about it.
Among the various positions he held: member of the provincial council, founding member of the Rotary Club of Sanremo, founder of the Famija Sanremasca, member of the Board of Directors of Madonna della Costa, artistic consultant of the Superintendence of Monuments of Liguria.
He died in Sanremo on 5 August 1979.
